I wrote this as a reminder that romance is not all fun and games.  Please be a responsible romantic.
Forgive me for my bluntness.

A desire to wait

"Come on hon.  Loosen up and taste this fine wine.
My sweet sugar babe we could have a really good time.
I know exactly what you mean sweety pie and I'd love to give sweet romance a try.
But before we start lets take a look inside our hearts.
Love is great if its real
but love is not just a sexual high you feel.
And if we knew not the consequences so well
I think we'd already be going to town sure as hell.
And I don't want to preach and judge
I just dont want gonorrhea or syphilis.
An unwanted pregnancy could be the fate
of drunken lovers who could not wait.
The saddest fate awaits those baby's who could never possibly dream or know
that abortion is the ultimate form of birth control.
And shouldn't somebody weep and cry when a baby die's never having looked into a mother's eyes.
That would have to hurt so much to never feel a mothers warm touch.
That's one heartbreak I don't want to live with
and one newborn baby I don't want to live without.
Now days new born baby's should scream and shout,
hey, I'm a lucky one!  I made it out!!!
Perhaps that is part of the reason why newborn babies scream and cry.
One more reason to hesitate before we begin.
Aids could be waiting just around the bend.
So honey, yes I'm gonna go now cause it's getting late
and I sure do respect your desire to wait."

James--

Blunt yes but also very true!! great piece you have here...i have always liked your style of writing...straight and to the point. and you remind us all of the importance of waiting to have sex until it is right for both people! high five!

Thanks for responding Amy...I believe I wrote this because of a situation that happened to me in which I was told I have no choice in the matter..my heart grieves...I think respect and love are missing in most relationships today..but that is another story.   James

James,

Well said!!  Too many people leap without looking and see the truth too late.  Nice to know there is at least one gentleman out there in the world.  Good for you!!  A poem with a moral...great concept!!

Lone wolf I have done my share of foolish leaping..my heart is stopping to reconsider.
I believe if we can make better choices perhaps the quality or blessings of our lives will improve.  It is not easy but it is desirable and possible.   James

How refreshing! I think this is one option that we are not giving our kids today.  Good job.

jmlee, I'm glad that you have made the decision to wait, as I have. It's sad the way that most teens just rush into things now. Yesterday, I saw a 13 year old girl from our middle school with her 9 month old baby. She didn't know how to carry it, and she nearly dropped it. Later, I saw her at the mall, in a restraunt. She had left the baby in a stroller outside. The father was nowhere to be found. This isn't an isolated incident, I'm afraid. I just wish that more people would make the choise you have.

Thank you ESP, Lori, Jana and LoveBug.
LoveBug I have been pondering my actions...and I like many have done lots of foolish things in my life.  My desire to wait is based on many conditions...some of which I have mentioned above...but most of all I want to find one special woman that feels the same way about me.  I have one in mind and I am becoming more and more convinced that she is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with..hopefully she will come to the same conclusion.    James
