The Thirst

Born in poverty she managed
With a drunken father she was cursed
The first in the family of many
And a mother too tired to fill her thirst

The need to be loved unconditionally
Was not something that unreasonable
But every chance she took to get it
Brought abuse both emotional and physical

By the age of twelve see left her home
With innocence lost and nothing but her will
A few years later she met the man
A man for the life she thought he’d fill

Now years later, kids of her own
The thirst never disappears
Her kids have grown, she’s all alone
Without a husband, left in tears

Terminally ill and wondering why
Her basic needs were never met
The unconditional love she searched long for
The thirst, the love she’ll never get

Oh Kat this is really good. Breaks my
heart to think there is someone out there
that has had children and siblings and has
not had their thirst filled ---

The beginning of this poem could have been
talking about my life- it is hard to
recognize love when you start out feeling
so undeserving -but somewhere in life one
must accept love at its face value and forget
how it all started, for that brings bitterness and unhappiness

Well written -- LOL got my nuturing button
pushed -)

Netswan I agree with you. It is sad and yes, one has to be able to get over their past if they're going to be happy. Expecting others to fill what was missing in the past only leaves them empty and bitter.

PS: I'm glad my poem was able to push your nurturing button..lol.

Hear that cracking sound?
That's my heart breaking.
This is so sad. Makes me very thankful for what I have.
And here I thought I had it bad......
Well done Kat!
