Imagining that it was wrought for me
I revel in sweet verse’s tenderness
Romantic renderings cause fantasy
Inspired by the thoughts of love’s express.
My heart takes flight and soars above mundane
Days filled with ordinary happenings
On wing transported to a lofty plane
I rise above the barren common things.
Reality taunts loudly in my ear
That flowing words for me I shall not find
Fine sonnets sung to me shall not appear
No work of art for me shall be designed.

From time to time, though, I can still pretend
For me exquisite poems have been penned.

Denise,
Oh to pretend is such the delight,
and to touch that higher plane
of joy before reality's bite.
Take the reins that bind
and free me for a moment in time
as your poem shows pretending is kind.

I love your poem, great way to describe what poems can do for others.

Denise, I can think of no one more deserving to have beautiful poems written about than you. I'm sure they have been and will continue to be....even if only in the mind.

I always found the real world too boring, I like my view on it better, it is more fun to live somewhere between fantasy and realty.

"From time to time, though, I can still pretend

a fantastic poem, beautiful, thank you for offering a moments escape from my reality- even that gets boring sometimes.

Denise--Just think of every smile and laugh and squeezed hand and hug and then count the number of poems that are yours, though not penned perhaps, only poetic moments so sweet.   Loved your poem!

Thank you, Rex, Gloria, Rose, Balladeer, Kit, Brian, Martie and James for reading and for your lovely replies! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, there are other demonstrations of love besides poetry and my life has been blessed with many of them! Having a non-poet for a spouse, he'll never write me a beautiful sonnet filled with love, so it's good for him he has other things to offer to make up for it!   My children aren't writer's either but both are artistic, so maybe one day they will paint their mom a beautiful masterpiece, when they aren't so busy raising kids!   But in the meantime there is plenty of love to go around! Thanks again for your great comments!

Excellent Denise. . . it's nice to pretend sometimes that we have many people who will be "our" poets. . . that we would be "their" muses. . . and there are enough wonderful poets here to go around. . . so, take your pick!!!

Great poem my friend. . .

Thank you, Sven, Teresa and David for reading and for your lovely comments! I'm glad you enjoyed! Now, to clear up any possible misunderstanding.....Elizabeth Santos, Rob Evans and Balladeer have all written beautiful poems for me......in this poem I was referring to the more 'romantic' type, say, that a lover would write for one...not that I don't appreciate the ones that were written for me....I was flattered beyond words, actually!
