I didn’t while my time away,
With spurs upon my boots…
Propped up in some small Café.
Or comin’ out of chutes.

I’ve done my share of driftin’
On those hot South-western roads…
Rode my broncs, and punched some cattle
And too often I got throwed.

I spent a lot of time alone-
Upon the weather deck…
Of some green-broke, crazy pony,
And I’ve had my share of wrecks.

I’ve seen “twenty below” winters,
And some “hundred plus” Julys…
I’ve been tromped, and hooked, and busted
Under lots of open skies…

I never made a lot of money,
They can’t say I didn’t try…
I’ll be proud to claim the title-
A Cowboy till I die!

A cowboy’s more than denim-
And hand made Mercer boots.
And drivin’ Chevy pickup trucks,
Or comin’ out of chutes…

And wearin’ big, Resistol hats-
Or sayin’, “Yessirree”!
It’s being true to your own dreams-
It’s mostly being free.

A cowboy takes his lickin’s
And doesn’t once complain…
About how bad he’s feeling-
He learns to live with pain.

He makes a lousy husband-
He just can’t double team-
He’s always chasin’ rainbows…
Or tryin' to rope a dream.

A cowboy’s what I’ve always been-
I hold my head with pride…
Some people call it arrogance,
But they can’t see inside.

I’ve paid my dues, I can’t explain-
No need to even try…
It wouldn’t make sense anyway-
A cowboy till I die!

Yee Haw! Gunslinger, you tell 'em.

I've had the priviledge of knowing a Bronco rider out of Texas Gunslinger, and he fit your description and sentiments to a "T" ... there's just somethin' 'bout a cowboy!  Great verse!  I really enjoyed it.

Best wishes,
/Kit

"I’ve paid my dues, I can’t explain-

Hey, no need to try and explain to this "Cowgirl".
I know just where you're comin' from.

It's not just bustin' out of chutes
Or ridin 'till the bell sounds-
Spinnin 'round the barrel
Or Bulldogin' steer to the ground

It's the dreams held deep within
And carrying them with pride
So tighten up that girth ya'll
And let your freedom ride

Ok enough of my nonsense
This is a great poem GunSlinger......
I think I'll forward it to some friends!
