1969 and Ostrich Thoughts

I cannot even conceive
let alone now believe
so many years are gone…and gone
and here I sit and ramble on,

remembering good times and bad,
happy and sad,
decisions to make
directions to take

then a child just 17
starting college, oh so green,
no clue then of what laid ahead
should have used discretion instead

so happy in my naivety
did not feel the rumblings beneath
the world’s concerns didn’t bother me,
and now the memories I do grieve…

such an ostrich that was I
living sheltered life so rare
not that there was money, no
just loving parents beyond compare,

but Oh my God to just go back
to bring forth what we now all lack,
right from wrong, white and black
oh my God, to just go back

would I change any one thing?
I would not have accepted the ring
I would have pulled my head from sand
I would have once, led the band.

Now the only direction I can take
is to learn from my own mistakes…

Seems we were both at the same place in 1969....just starting out, a wealth of opportunity....I've often thought about things I would have done differently if I had the chance to go back....but I really don't think I'd change a thing...even my first marriage because then I wouldn't have my wonderful daughters and my wonderful granddchildren....Yea, I'd do everything exactly the same!

You know, denise, you struck on what I had thought to leave out, because I would never change the fact that I have my kids...and my grandkids...but for those who don't, well, it's a nice bit of fiction, isn't it?  Thanks for reading...

As a teenager this poem makes me think about exactly how what I do now will effect me at a later age. I loved reading it though.

Lucidity is the answer to all problems

Good for you, Lucius!  I did not have the foresight to ask myself "will what I do today affect me in 10 years, and how?"  If this has helped you think along those lines, then the message is a success!

Sunshine...

Message IS a success. I enjoyed it very much.
I love the rhymes and the thoughts it brought forth.

I too have often thought...what would I have changed...done better or differently?...NOTHING!!

If I had changed anything, I may have missed out on two wonderful daughters and my beautiful grandchildren...NO WAY would I want that!

THANKS for the read.
