The Black and White of it

I see in black and white
when the past creeps in
and I decorate time
with movement backward
where I can see pale dark hair
and questioning face
slightly lost and dreamy
in a drenched and baggy swimsuit
gazing across the sand
attending to the sea sounds
and the long expanse of beach

and next to me my blond brother
tall and sturdy with curiosity
looks down with reverence
into the face of a clock he holds
his fingers already itching to undo
each tiny screw and move each part
of the ticking mystery.

I see I am the same girl now
tramping footsteps across the sand
and wondering gaze across the blue
reverent majesty of life
that overwhelms me into making words
to try to explain
and he now a physician in white coat
stethoscope adornment
looks into slowly ticking life
with amazed motherboard fascination.

In this simple childhood photo
is the beginning of what I still am
and will be
caught and forever obvious
though life has pulsed
in changing backdrops
coloring eyes to green
and skin from pale to rosy
and he is somewhat withered from his verdant hold
on curiosity

still we recognize who we are
is just who we were
in color.

Martie~
You color the photos with the artist's brush of time from the palette of your memory.
Very uniquely done.
Very satisfying to read.

Makes me realize why I admire black and white photography so much.
And ... why I love your poetry so much.
Unique.
Love you ~

Stunning, You paint clear and colour images with your words. A Wonderful poem. A Fascinating look back at child hood.

martie,
this is excellent. such depth and self discovery...wonderful writing...
as I was reading it a song verse came to mind...
in my mind the poem conjured it up...
maybe you will see the parallels...
either way, hope you enjoy *smile*

I know it's been a long road
To get these fears behind me and I ...
Will gladly reap what we may sow,
I am--There for you and you're there for me..

Goodbyes and epitaphs

Some things cannot be explained by verses that rhyme,
They are not measured by the commitment of time.
Some emotions run too deep to be described by words,
Forgiveness and understanding-remain the most beautiful words ever heard.

This poem is really cool, love the way you take us back and forth in time, with memories in black and white to match old photographs!
