Anatomy of a Man

A man is something of a brute
Of manner quite like beastly hulk
Consuming ghastly wrestling throws
With savoring smirks and grimaced gawks

A tense demeanor he assumes
With beer attached to clenching fist
And eyes glued to the Super Bowl
With artery bulge on brow and wrist

An awkward mass of bone and tissue
Humor’s spirit honed and hewn
To wallow in the witless pit
Of dirty jokes and brash cartoons

A head immersed in ego’s hole
With ostrich view upon the world
Until his heart is opened up
And love is suddenly unfurled

This creature turns to sheer delight
With stars that twinkle in his eyes
He thinks and sings and writes in words
Of tender lovely lullabies

He lights the days, he warms the nights
He touches on the brink of bliss
And wakes me in the shadow’s dawn
With warm embrace and tender kiss

Oh dear this is not me at all, I guess I am destined to be a boy forever. A great poem, loved the ending thought

This creature turns to sheer delight
With stars that twinkle in his eyes
He thinks and sings and writes in words
Of tender lovely lullabies

He lights the days, he warms the nights
He touches on the brink of bliss
And wakes me in the shadow’s dawn

an amazing images... "A head immersed in ego’s hole
With ostrich view upon the world"

great poem.

Elizabeth,
The two extremes in the beginning and end are done very well. It makes for a very strong poem. Love Sy

You are so talented girl!  You certainly know how to hit the nail on the head!  LOL  The way you took a hairy, burly blob, and turned him into a tender, loving man, was spectacular!  You work wonders and magic my dear!     I liked this alot!

Dear Liz; Great poem as usual. Boy you really described the different sides of a man to a tee. It sounds like you found a terrific one though! Ellie

Marge, I never had one like this. Just poking fun at a lot of men I see around here.
THanks,
Liz

Brian, Don't ever be like this. Be just the way you are (Much more appealing)
Liz

Sy,
Never did like beastly hulks
Who stare at sports with grimmaced galks
I like a man with tenderness
A gentlman at manner's best
This was just for fun
Liz

Danny, Don't worry, you are all wonderful (That is, the men poets on Passions)
Thanks
Liz

Poet Femme, Yeh, I know alot of men who fit this description to a tee, except I forgot to mention how they know their license plate number by heart, having played it in the weekly lottery so many times. hehe. Anyway, this is not my ideal man. Sorry, guys if this is you, no offense.
Thanks poet femme
Liz

Ellie, Thanks, dear. Mine is very different indeed

Thank you
Love
Liz

Martie, Glad you found some humor in this. Guess I'm trying to divert the mind a little

Balladeer, No point at all, just fun. How about a rebuttal?

I think you've covered about every possibly know type of man here except for maybe Richard Simmons.   Would he fall within the definition of the first or the second man?James

I enjoyed the tongue in cheek humour here, Liz. And what has the power to change the brutish hulk to a gallant gentleman? Why, Love, of course! I know this was a wonderfully rendered exaggeration, but thank goodness not all men are like this fellow!

Thanks for the smile, dear Lady...
