I dared to love, I dared to dream
Only memories now of what might have been

Had a life, a love, so it did seem
Look back now on shattered dream

I tried to hold but all was lost
Now all my life I'll count the cost

To chase new love, impossible it seems
Or morn love lost, was it just a dream?

What the future holds can't be sure
Perhaps a chance to live once more

A love now found it is so right
But can it be, what of this plight?

What's right or wrong, who's to say
Tell me why our love must pay

It would cause you  pain and sorrow
I can't do that, not now, or tomorrow

Of open arms there'll be no more
No one else goes through that door

Eagle,
this poem made me sad, but it also made me have this sentence pop into my head, something I use oftern:
"Life and love is a game, there are no pawns and we are all gamemasters. So choose your rules well, and PLAY to win"
You played a game and lost. But you have learned from it.
"Life is a teacher. What you do with the knowladge a test."
I hope the person you wrote about pass the test of life... He seems strong.
A.

EagleOne~
I'm touched by the sorrow of this piece.
When we hold others at bay ..
we hold no one close.
Open up and let another in ...
you'll be richer for it.

I share the opinions of the others, for it was a piece of mourning. You will find new loves to chase...

That time of year thou mayst in me behold, When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang, Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruined choirs where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou see'st the twilight of such day, As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by-and-by black night doth take away, Death's second self that seals up all in rest. In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire, That on the ashes of his youth doth lie, As the deathbed whereon it must expire, Consumed with that which it was nourished by. This thou perciev'st, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
William Shakespeare

Ardonida...I'm not so sure that we are all gamemasters..lol.and I agree, life is full of opportunities to learn.  Thanks for reading and for your comments.

Marge...Your comments are always welcomed, the door was opened to annother and I am much, much richer because of it. Thankyou!

LadySofia...I liked the way you described this, a piece of mourning. I guess in a way that is true, at least in part but also a look at what may be. Thanks for reading.
