The warm soft glow of candle flame
Was greeting as in here ...I came
The door ajar I could not help but glance
The linen bed was neatly made
At the bottom where the shoes were laid
This peaceful scene helped in my... advance

I stood now in the writer’s lair
And on the desk and finished there
A diary lay open…... leather bound
It was open at the very last page
The author must have been a sage
I read the verses soft without a sound

The ink was still glistening wet
As down upon my knees I get
To read this verse that at my heart did strain
And if I ever do grow old
I’ll always recite just what it told
I’ll now repeat it here to you again

………………………......................

As I come to the final end
My life as been so good my friend
I’ve lived long and cannot anger sue
These few here ...my final lines
I have had such swelling times
At the end I leave my book to you

My ink was always from above
The words I scrolled I scrolled with love
I formed them with a longing in my heart
And as you now will read them here
Please my friend don’t shed a tear
For I am just dissolving not apart

I always wrote my lines with hope
As sometimes with life’s chides I’d cope
This anchor always kept me on the ground
With hope my anchor and love my ink
Tell me now ....how could I sink
I don’t mind if my turns come ‘round

It’s faith that binds this book you see
It’s always been a friend to me
I’ve always tried to keep it in my mind
And as you take these words herein
I hope you are renewed within
To me I think that life was always ..kind

My pen was charged with charity
I never made a price you see
To trade my work I never gave a thought
But now with trust I write these lines
To help you through your troubled times
It is this wish with which my work is bought

............................................

If only you’d been there with me
If you could see what I could see
I’m sure you would have bowed in deep respect
This wondrous book on the last page
Would quieten all your worldly rage
It was full of joy the message was direct

The candle now was nearly through
And as I tell this tale to you
I know you’ll see…..I know you'll understand
I knew this life had run its course
There was no room for sad remorse
As I took the pen from……. the poets hand

I love this poem it is awesome, you are a very talented writer. As for your question, I'm not sure if your asking it as serious that you actually get a chill, or that you had a message here all along you were trying to relay? All I can hope is it's not you taking the pen from yourself because you are much to good a writer for us to lose here.
Could it be someone very close to you, that inspired you and you admired, and the thought of them gone brings the sentsation? I am just grasping at straws here and probably way off base, but hey you tossed a challenge and I am an analyzer, I analyze everything cause I want to know everything...LOL

OK  I hope this makes sense.
When I write I don't always know where the plot is going to lead I have a rough idea but things always happen along the way.

When I set out on this one I didn't realise that the poet would actually be still at the desk.

I've been in several situations where people have died and always get struck by the mystery of what it is all about.

The chill I think comes from the poets legacy being understood almost immediately after his or her death.

By the observer who reads the book.

Many lives seem so pointless, to have meaning placed on your life through your written words seems to me to be fulfilling.

Jon

Anyone elses impressions would be welcome.

beautiful poem Jon
Seemed to me he was happy and satisfied with his work, many artists not recognized until their passing by the community, probably die knowing their legacy will endure, and their endeavour was valid.

yeah, nice thoughts.. it is kinda nice, to know that when u r not here, someone will remember you.. and it wont JUST be in their hearts.. 'coz others, who did not know you, can remember you also.. poetry is not only to bring light and hope to yourself, but to others as well, and also, to set a part of yourself down on paper.. for every poem you write, is a piece of yourself.. true to that;
with every poem you write, you find another piece of yourself..

beautifully said, Jon
