~Better Days~

Well, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions,
I've walked this road burdened ...
with secrets and baggage that I cant mention.
I've paid the price too many times now ... for someone else's sins,
and I know all the games, and I know just cause you play by the rules ...
sure as hell don't mean your gonna win.
I have spent a lifetime trying to get back the things they took away,
and I learned something's they took from me, are simply gone to stay.
It took years to even begin ... to ever let myself feel trust ...
to learn the difference between truth and lies, tired alibis, love and lust.
I always knew I could do better than the examples that they set,
I just refuse to be like them ... I haven't lost this bet, yet.
So I cut all my losses and broke free of the ties that bind,
I set out to find what was left of me, and to leave all this pain behind.
Some days it does get hard, the voices still haunt me ...
and I'm still learning that I am the only one who can truly set ~ME~ free.
So I try to look forward and let go of all the sorrow,
I refuse to let them have a hold on me ... they cant have my tomorrows.
I can walk this road of life and not lose my own way ...
I will have my run at the sun, and when I'm tired all I need to do is pray.
So here's to NEW HORIZONS ... to breaking free and rising above ...
here's to poetry ... true friends ... and here's to unconditional love.
Here's to better days ... to kissing fate ... and dancing with destiny ...
here's to happy endings ... here's to you ...
and here's to me finally learning to love me.

Janet Marie   5/17/00

thanks for the inspiration Jeffery and Lone Wolf
for this...
and for the idea of writing with someone else...
your poems together inspired me and Brian Madden to write "Celestial Passions"...
and we have plans to write others,
and I also have plan to write with a few other fav poets...
SEE what you started LOL
THANKS.

"no more tears ... left to hide,
we have made it thru a long and lonely nite,
BETTER DAYS ... are on our sides...
well, it looks as though we're doing something right.

Oh, this is perfect!!  You've outdone yourself with this one.  The hope shines through, the dream to have a better life, to finally embrace yourself.  I love it!  This describes my students so well.  Your closing lines really touch my heart.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Janet, this is beautiful, as I see lots of soul-researching going on in this one.     That's what I like to call it.  You touched on many sensitive points, but yet, you wrapped it up with such strength, grace and charm, you left me in awe!  Fabulous read, and so glad you were inspired to do such a healing piece.  Bravissimo!  And btw, thank you for sticking it out on my new LONG story!  hehehe  You're the best girl!  Have missed you terrible!  Have had no inspiration, so I've been laying low.

This was an excellent response to the challenge Janet Marie ... you've out-done yourself. This was so full of deep emotions, with such a positive outcome. Take care JM, and continue to hold your head high above the challenges you've faced.

Best wishes,
/Kit

WOW.... and...em...wow....

Each line is a home truth, each one I know and can connect with me, that was amazing, I am stunned to silence.

"I have spent a lifetime trying to get back the things they took away,
and I learned something's they took from me, are simply gone to stay."

"So I cut all my losses and broke free of the ties that bind,
I set out to find what was left of me, and to leave all this pain behind.
Some days it does get hard, the voices still haunt me ...
and I'm still learning that I am the only one who can truly set ~ME~ free.
So I try to look forward and let go of all the sorrow,
I refuse to let them have a hold on me ... they cant have my tomorrows."
These words I know so well, while gazing into your own soul I believe you also saw into mine.

Janet ---You go Girl!
Let those ghosts fly off your shoulders
and always enjoy today - and look forward
to tomorrow.

So touching - and well written, of course.

Beautiful poem.

So you took the road less traveled
And you're better for it now
You've managed to win the battle
That fate would not allow

Again beautifully done!!!!

BEG, sounds like you have grabbed life by the tale and your calling your own terms!
It's the only way to fly!  and i believe your about to soar, my poetic Eagle.

       with grace and strength
        you write your story
        determined after all
         to have your glory

        on your own two feet
         your ready to stand
       taking fate and destiny
             by the hand

~~excellent writing JM~~
