Death At Gate

A soulful song, a willful way,
Departure on a modest day,
The topic of a heated debate,
Stood before the white of Heaven's gate.
A fire rose, its petals out,
Reaching, searching all about,
The sun, so cold, froze the tree,
The branches of which resembled me.
Cracked about, shook me loose,
I fell into the Devil's noose,
Wrapped up neat, the flower died,
I fell into the great divide.
Sweat, heat, desert-dry well,
Man it sure is hot in h***!
Sudden light turned me about,
His wings unfolding, upward, out,
Pulling me up into the light,
Leaving Lucifer to his night.

This poem is about a person who dies, reaches the gates of heaven, and the Devil steals her away to h***. Because her sins weigh heavily upon her mind like the oppressive heat of the desert, she is almost trapped there, caught in the great divide between forgiveness and eternal damnation. Seeing her plight, an angel comes to her rescue, and returns her to her rightful place.
