Listening to every heart

Who Am I?

Asking this
all the time
of myself,
and
not getting
a complete answer…
because of
the daily changes
that come
to me, myself and I.

I mean, really,
how dare I
ask of me
this so
personal of a question?

After all, I could fabricate
stories abundantly,
be someone I am not,
someone I
only wish to
emulate,

or perhaps
I am just afraid
of the little that I am
after wanting to
be so very much
to so very
many.

But if you think of
me,
think
eyes of green,
for that I know is mine.

And if you want to
think of me a little more
think of music
in your heart,
the kind that touches you
deeply.

Finally,
an absolute way
to think of me
is to imagine
arms wrapped
around all
of the happiness
of a child
under the summer
sun.

There.
The surface is scratched.

If I am I and
Me is me,
Why do I wonder
What becomes of me?

If I have to question,
myself of my existence,
Why do I try and reason,
with undue persistence?
----------------

Well done Sunshine, indeed the surface is scratched.

Regards,
Sudhir

That in an art gallery is left hanging,
Though many come just to look at it,
A very few actually come to enjoy it.

only five years ago that was a very impotant question on my mind, who am I? I was in that discovery stage - the teenage years. I thought there was a quick answer or a moment when I would become myself, but I realised that who I am to myself is not who I am to others. I think how people react to us defines us as much as how we view ourselves.
when looking for the answer we can always dig too deep but I think you can stop looking,
"around all
of the happiness
of a child
under the summer
sun".
If this image defines you then you may search no more, fantastic poem.

Sunshine,
I am printing this right now!  This is so sweet, and yet deep at the same time.  You have done a superb job with your feelings here.
Definitely one of my all time favorites!

The stark honesty of this poem was hard for me to swallow.  Proof of the pudding.  Any poem that evokes such enormous feeling, is a good poem.  The lines: "or perhaps I am just afraid of the little that I am after wanting to be so very much  to so very many" were the hardest of all.  For they say how I feel about myself.  I've always wanted to fix everything for everyone, and sometimes I've arrived at the point where I could fix nothing for anyone, not even myself.  Helpless.  Useless.  I trust you're not saying all that.  But that's what I said to myself through your words of truth and reality.
No one can truly be all they wish to be.

But I love the way your poem ends.  To have given joy to a child must be one of the most important things.  And I have done that.

Excellent, the way you say "there, the surface is scratched" - I love that!  We're complex beings, all of us, aren't we!  Especially poets.  Or is it that complex beings become poets?

Brian, questioning ourselves knows no age limit...as you will find out for yourself...
but I am glad to think that you think I know the answer...

Lori, any favorite of yours will be a favorite of mine...

Rosemary, you do not know how deeply your words have affected me...and brought tears... thank you...

~Wow Sunshine,...loved this.  I have asked myself this very thing over and over.  Each day I wish to fill things that possibly aren't in my reach or if they are sometimes I get there too late.  At times I take it way too much to heart and expect too much.  This poem has surely struck a cord in my heart thank you for sharing. *Peace.

The title catch my wanting to read
Who am I, is a question oh so deep
I cam tell you who you are
First, you're special by far
Second, you're gentle and thoughtfull of others needs
loving and carring, full filling your deeds
With green eyes as I see
A friend and special person
That is thee
A poet with the words that coming from the heart
A picture worth a thausand words of art
Now enough before you blush
I have to go to work
I'm in a rush
I cannot say it differently
But all this is what you are to me
Thank you
And the poem is special too

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Oh Sunshine ... I so enjoyed this!  Beautifully written and heartfelt.  This touched me deeply also, for I ask the same questions of myself. You've penned this wonderfully.

Best wishes,
/Kit
