I love you, gentle husband of my heart.

You are the great homesickness I can never assuage,
The oceantide that rumbles through my sleep every night.
You are the victory in every war that I wage,
The unsated longing that draws me now to your light.

You are the song that I sing in each moment of silence,
The prayer in my heart as I begin each new day.
You are the single thought that makes all the difference,
The sacred words that I chant are the shape of your name.

You are the promise of love without measure,
The one gift I've valued above all from my youth.
You are the passion that I've come most to treasure,
Through all of my life the one absolute truth.

I love you, gentle husband of my heart.

Beki~
Nicely done.
Nothing like the feelings from the heart.
Enjoyed the read.

Oh, this is beautiful!  It is how I love my own husband, but I can never manage to put it into words that satisfy me.  You poem says it all.  Thank you for sharing!

I am very happy you all can relate to this so well but I have to be honest, it is written for "the husband of my heart", not the one I married (and who divorced me three years ago after 20 years of marriage),no, for the one I should have married long years ago. He is and always has been my muse

Beki, I'm reading......

This was so heart memory wrenching. There is always that one person that we should have, but didn't. Does he still exist in your circles or is he just that a memory from your youth. Very lovely read indeed.

Thanks for reading Parker

We have moved in and out of each other's lives often over the last 20 years (last time I saw him) with phone calls, letters, etc. Neither one of us has ever been able to completely let go. For the last 3 years our contact has been all by email, though he lives less than 20 miles away.So in a way, he is still "in my circle" but in many other ways, never further out of reach. Thanks for your understanding, my friend

Thank you so much Danny! And the beach is wonderful..we have had absolutely PERFECT weather this whole first weekend of summer
Only problem is all the non locals around, way too many out-of-towners  for my tastes! LOL  Really, it is great, reminds me why I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Wonderful poem Beki ... I found myself re-reading it after I'd seen some of your comments further below.  "Husband of My Heart"  ... this is a lovely phrase and tribute to someone who so clearly captured your heart so many years ago ... beautiful sentiments.

Best wishes,
/Kit

I hope you will enclose this poem with your next letter to him, changing "husband" to "angel" or some other word.
He will have a keepsake for life, and probably be knocking on your door next morning. I can see this powerful poem must have been inspired by powerful feelings, as was my recent poem,"Her Heart Became Aware" The years don't seem to change anything

Thank you Kit and Liz. It is true the years change nothing..he has always said that our love transcends all time and distance and circumstance, I have always believed that was true. And I wouldn't change the wording  because he has always loved it that I referred to him as the husband of my heart over the years, it is a special thing between us.

I wish I could send it to him, I send him every poem I write for him because they belong to him.....if he doesn't see them they don't mean much. But a couple months ago he said some computer problems made it necessary to give his wife his  password so I should not write for awhile till I heard he had resolved the problem (for obvious reasons she is unaware of our contact and best it stays that way)

Anyway  thanks for all the nice comments on this poem which is so close to my heart.
