I thought that I could write.

I thought that I could write
A piece of poetry
The best I ever tried

Words where are they when I’m in need
Some don’t come to me
And others yet incise so deep

I tried to write about your beauty
But lost in your eyes
Words cannot full fill this duty

I tried to write about your tenderness
But lost in your hands
My lines aren’t blessed

I tried to write about your charm
But lingering there
I was lost inside your arm

I tried to write about your love I feel
But drowned in your soul
No words seemed real

I tried to write about my love
But with bleeding heart
How can I begin my dove?

I tried to write about the way you sing
But lost in your song
I could not begin

I tried, but failed so miserably
To write a piece of poetry
Describing you and me

The best I ever tried,
was to hold your hand
the day you died

Note: dieing does not always mean the physical death, it can also mean to lose something very special. In this case I refer to the "very special".

I used to think that true beauty could not be expressed, that words only taint and devalue its wonder, but looking at this site and reading the poems changed my mind. I guess I lack the verbal capacity to express the pure wonders, but still once I am able to appreciate them and still find them in life I am not too bothered. A great poem, I am sorry for your loss (the day you died)

You haven't just tried to write - you did.  And beautifully.

This reminded me of something - I think a poet never stops writing inside.  There are always thoughts, feelings, and emotions banging around inside trying to get out.  Sometimes it comes out easier than others.  To me, it could just be some random thought that occurs to me, and I think - I need to write.  Other times, I have all these ideas and I just can't put it together.
But you have done it here.
Thank you.

Marge
Thank you so much, where would I be without thee.
You are very special your self, you know.

Lori
Thank you so much for your reply.
I have to agree with you; my thoughts are constantly on the go and it’s sometimes so hard not to take a paper and write these thoughts down. And yes, sometimes nothing comes of it. But I try to hang on to those pieces of paper. Eventually I can get back to them and most of the time something good comes (well good for me) out of it, after all.

What a wonder is a poem.  You convey so much feeling here without any flourish.  This flows well from beginning to end...I completely felt every word and emotion.

  Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

By explaining how you couldn't find the words....you found them in a most touching way.  This was a beautiful tribute to the one you speak of and the love for that person shows though every line.  Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart and soul with us by posting this.

Helmut...sometimes things don't die, they just change as we also change in our perspectives towards them. True friendship, my dear, never dies and you will always have a friend in me.
Love you my friend

Sometimes no matter how hard we try, we can't find just the right words. This is lovely, Helmut!

So often a loss such as this cannot be described with words, Helmut, as we know...but your "desire" to express speaks quite audibly and beautifully.

I'm still searching but have also found, I almost want to say. Thank you, May your butterfly never cry. I hoped and now you say I did, convey how I feel.
PS "Eleanor Roosevelt" she was right with her words. I have to thank you.

Hello Rex. Perhaps you are right about "not losing touch with words", but I still miss this hand.

hoot_owl_rn
Ruth, yes you could be right with the fact that life changes and also that true friendship will never die. But above all this, I'm glad to have you as a friend. I know that you are there and I know where I can land if I need to. Thank you.
Hugs and Love to you.

I agree denise and thank you for your kind words. I liked the "Lovely" very much
