         A Villanelle

Our lives could be just as we've planned;
Each day's forecast our own devise
If we are granted Sleight of Hand.

Divergency we'd not withstand
In staid agenda naught reprise
Our lives could be just as we've planned

Exigency meets our command
Dare not eschew nor compromise
If we are granted Sleight of Hand

Such stringency invites remand
Contentious staunch sinew belies
Our lives shan't be just as we've planned

Felicity in fain so grand
In dreams undoffed we'll fantasize
If we are granted Sleight of Hand

Existence swept as grain of sand
Fulfillment appetence descries
Our lives shan't be just as we've planned
If we are granted Sleight of Hand

Oh man *pouting*...does that mean we can't have our cake and eat it too? Oh darn!
It is fun, though, fantasizing about how things could be if we only had that power! Excellent writing, Nan, but of course!

Life is what you make it until fate steps in the way. I guess that is part of the fun of life, those little surprises and uncertainities. Fantastic poem, I will admit I had to consult my dictionary once or twice. My brain is on go slow mode lately.

Absolutely beautiful Nan.  Had to read it 3 or 4 times to sorta get a handle on it (us simpletons have trouble with thoroughbred language), but I think it superb.  And I think fate happens whether we try to make it happen or not, though I also think we have the ability to mold and shape it...but that's an expansive subject.

I look forward to, and enjoy all your poems I have thus far read, Nan, and thank you for posting them.

When they said, "the hand was quicker than the eye..." Were they talking about poets..? Ness work Nancy.

If I could paint a portrait, of this life in which I've led, and somehow sketch a story, of the visions in my head, I'd start out with a canvas, stretched tightly in a frame, and in the bottom corner, I'd leave room to sign my name. (Michelle A. Bartley)
