Lonely nights without you-
I’ve spent out on the road.
Rides I’ve made to win a buck-
And times that I got throwed.

Chili for my breakfast,
And coffee on the run…
I find it very hard to believe…
We used to call this fun.

But fun is for the youngster-
My age is gaining fast.
My best years on the circuit…
I know are in the past.

The miles stretch out before me-
How long can I go on?
There’s nothing to go home to…
Now that you are gone.

You must have told me twenty times,
Why didn’t I believe?
You, when you said, “I’m getting tired-
Someday I’m gonna leave”?

The Fort Worth show, then Houston-
Then west to San Antone-
No sense in quittin’ rodeo-
Now that you are gone.

Gunslinger I will admit I am very tired
and almost didnt' click on your poem
as I know I must be alert for most
your travelin' poems.
To my delight and glad I did,
good easily relate to this poem

"There's nothing to go home to..now that you are gone."  How many times have I thought these same thoughts missing a woman I cared for and now she's gone.   James

Oh wow...this was terribly sad.  No one to go home to.  I hope this doesn't tell a real life tale.  I wouldn't wish the emptiness you speak of on anyone.  I know all too well.  You keep that head held high, you hear?     Thanks for sharing!

Sometimes we make decisions that later can't be undone, especially when others are involved. This is sad yet has a valuable lesson woven within it! Fabulous writing, as always, John!
