'Twas the night before liftoff

'Twas the night before liftoff
and all through the launch pad,
not a person was stirring, not even the captain.

The instruments were all hung in the lockers with care
in hopes that their mission soon would become rare.

The astronauts were all drowsy, all snug in their beds,
while visions of planets danced in their heads.

And the pilot in her space suit, and the commander in his cap
had just settled down to a pre-flight nap.

When out of the cockpit, there arose such a crash,
they sprang from their chair to see what went bash.

When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,
but the tail of a comet, and the space station MIR.

With the two big pictures suspended in air,
they knew in a moment that they must really be ware.

More rapid than blue jays, the commanders did tell
that all operations were ready and well.

Go engine!  Go flight deck!  Go buttons and switches!
Go air tanks!  Go fuel!  Ignition!  Ignition!

The crew gave a signal; the engineers gave a nod
and soon the whole area began to shake like a fraud.

The shuttle, how elegant, the rockets, how deadly,
from the top of the tower, we were sure they were heavy.

The astronauts walked quickly, the helpers did too,
for fear of the unknown was beginning to brew.

And now by that moment, the time was drawing near,
and the guards had moved the crowds back to the peer.

The specialists were strapped in and the pilot was ready,
the shuttle preparation was going quite steady.

Right before liftoff
we heard the crowd say,

"Have fun on your mission
And have a great stay!"

LOL, Cute parady Cassers!  I loved it!  I'm going to move it to Open #7, because it is more of a poem though.  Great work Cassie
