My Mom Use to Say
Amy M. Kennedy

My mom use to say every-thing happens for a reason
Long hours of discussion between she and I
She use to say things change with the passing season
We never realized how fast time would fly by

My mom use to say life is a mystery and one person can't know all
I took what she said to heart and listened to all she would say
She taught me to believe in myself...to stand proud and tall
Make every moment count, for there might be another day

My mom use to say what goes around comes around
She was always so smart and wise
What I wouldn't give to hear her voice, that lovely sound
She taught me so much, I would listen as she advised

My mom use to say friends are the truest gift we'll ever receive
Late into the hours of the night I would listen as she talked
She made me reach for the stars, and try to always achieve
All along through the years of my youth, she and I walked

My mom use to say take nothing for granted, it can vanish like the blink of an eye
People come and go, and still the world turns
Little did she know how right she was, and for a long time after her death
I questioned why
Only the tender age of sixteen, oh how my heart burned

My mom use to say for every down there is an up, for every sad, there is a glad
A true believer in the hands of fate and destiny
She said for every good there is bad
She was so sweet and heavenly

All through our days together, I listened to her wise words
However I could have never known what lay in store for me
Funny how those words she taught me became my weapon, my sword
Yet those very words were such a sad reminder, from them I wanted to flee

Well, mom my years of childhood are gone, and a woman I now stand
I still hear your words of wisdom playing in my ear
Forever in my heart you shall remain…like the ocean’s quiet sand
And in my dreams and in my darkest hours, your voice I do hear

Amy~
You've touched this mother's heart with this piece.  What a special mother you had ... and a very large part of her lives within you ... your heart.

A simply elegant, heart-felt tribute to your mother ... she sure did a wonderful job with you, young lady.
Bless you.

This is a beautiful tribute to you mom, Amy! Very tender. I think the best gift a parent can give a child are words of wisdom that enable the child to go on living when the parent is no longer with them.

--I just needed to take a moment to thank the three of you...Marge, Jan, and Denise for replying to this piece. This was a VERY hard one for me...i played with a long time before posting it. i am sometimes a bit of a perfectionist lol. you guys have NO idea what your sweet replies did to my heart. jan, your reply especially touched me! you are such a pure sweetheart who always knows what to say to me. marge, you are such a fine poet...and to get a response from you is the ultimate compliment in my eyes. denise you always reply to my work and have something encouraging to say. thank you so much!!

all my love,
amy

Amy* This is so wonderfully written, and a beautiful tribute to your mother, she touched you in so many ways and from the way you speak of her here.....I can see many of her qualities live on in you.  I knew this time would be hard on you and I'm sorry all I can offer is a cyber *hug* but I also know that you are being sent **angel wing hugs** every moment.

 Hold me for yesterday
Kiss me for tomorrow
But love me for today.

Amy-

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this poem. It's beautiful, wonderfully written, and I'm glad you posted it.

Hi Amy ----this is lovely and should make
many mothers wish they have a daughter such as you --)
I used to learn most my wisdom from my
grandmother  - oh how I miss her, too.

Amy,
I know this had to be very difficult to write, but your mom was definitely worth it I'm sure.  You know she knows how much you pay tribute to her.  I'm glad she gave you so much, and honored that you've shared it with us.
