To a Dove

I wandered out to garden green
in hopes of passing pleasure
in daily discourse with a friend
a dove, in dogwood's treasure

I stood beneath the nesting dove
and thought on bygone years
What happened to that woman, strong,
who knew to hide her tears?

What came of lady, so refined,
the gentlewoman poet
with nary remark nor heartcrossed word
nor any need to show it?

I gazed upon my resting friend
a woman's workday shared
To fairest dove, I wished thee well
as I, to pen, repaired

Dear LadyClaire

How lovely this is, Claire! I could visualize you in your garden speaking with the dove. This is precious. Please, never put that pen away!

There is an elegance about your work Claire that stands next to none.  This is so beautiful. I for one am glad you chose to "show it".

Claire~
Exquisite ... just exquisite.
Your pieces are laced with serenity.
Nesting dove in garden ...
cooing way to heart of pardon.
Love you, lady.

You folks are so sweet...I wasn't even going to post this, as it seemed almost too "sappy" today when I wrote it after being out there with my little ladyfriend. But I thought, oh why not, and am glad for it.

Denise...I will promise if YOU will...deal?

Michael...thank you, my fine flattering friend, for reading, enjoying and understanding.

Marge...oh what a smile you've allowed with your sweetness...thank you so much. (((you))).

Ah Claire, would that I were that dove that I could share in the creation of so delicate and beautiful a poem. . .

Excellent. . .

Claire~
This was very medieval feeling, shakespearean or something. Quite romantic, I loved it and could truly see you there speaking to the dove..
great job!

Claire, this piece ssemed to me a sad reflection of a your past or a past your wanting to express. But I'm not good at analizing these things.... anyway it was very delicate to me, I loved the read. Was your ladyfriend the dove?

Martie, a sigh from you is poetic success...thank you, in earnest, for such a pleasant start to my day.

Sven, thank you, my friend, for sharing such a lovely thought...I'm very pleased you enjoyed this little one...

X Angel, thank you for such kind commentary. That I pattern my work after the classical poets is no secret...so glad you liked this piece.

Parker, who says you're not good at poetic analysis?? You were right on the mark with this one, my friend. And yes, "my ladyfriend"  was simply referring to the dove nesting out in one of the dogwoods here...she's quite the listener...

TerryW, I must thank you for such a stirring and encouraging response. And for letting me know how this poem touched something inside you.

Redheart, of course I am not insulted by your suggestion. Rather, I am flattered that you would leave such an enthusiastic response. I will look at the site, though don't know about the contest.   I have been writing since childhood, and have always enjoyed it. Thanks again for such a kind reply.

We have three ponds in our yard and for the past couple years the doves have nested in our hedge row ... they bring their babies to drink from the ponds and they take food from our hands ... hope they're back this year
Loved your poem
