Love beats down with "pitter-pat"
And fills my heart with puddles
Puddles then streams of this and that
My heart becomes a muddle.

I feel the run-off as it strays
My heart now fleeting streams
I hate these the most, these rainy days
The nights are worse with dreams.

Streams now rivulets of love
Carrying away the top
My heart's surface begins to move
How I wish it would stop.

Rivulets become swollen now
Turning from creek to river
Carving deeper ruts somehow
Carrying away slivers.

Love's rain keeps beating down
Threatening to flood my soul
And I'm afraid that I may drown
Inside this watery hole.

Rivers and vortex, raging flood
My heart is swept away
Eroded now into the blood
Not wanting now to stay.

And then as suddenly as it came
The love is stole away,
But the damage done all the same
My heart will stay this way.

Thanks sis....actually it came to me when my mower got stuck in a rut in my front yard yesterday, following our torrential rains from Saturday ranging anywhere from 3 1/2 inches where I live to 13 inches less than 45 minutes away.  We actually have people missing work today because they can't get here.

Loved the poetic progression from "pitter~pat" to "raging flood"...what an interesting perspective and inspiration...

I agree! This is most excellent, Rob! I always enjoy reading your poems. They are never boring or run of the mill!
