The letter came and to war he goes
"I knew this day would come!"
He's packed a bag- he's on death row
    "Please don't join martyrdom!"
Just going to join the imbroglio
    "Oh! My mind is pandemonium!"
I'm sure he'll lose his domino
     "I'm eternally trapped in delirium!"
Oh, please, don't go, don't go.

Why is there war?
Why is there hatred?
Why is there fighting and kiling
     of families and lives?

Billy was killed last Tuesday
     "He's dead!"
We got word today
"My heart's been pierced by an arrowhead!"
My mind is in a disarray
"The general wrote and said ---"
I'll never forget the day
     "The general said ---
      Your lover is dead."
My lover is dead.

Why is there war?
Why is there hatred?
Why is there fighting and killing
     of loves and lives?

"Why is there war?" I don't think there is ever a good reason or answer to that question. It is frigtening to think that human's are the only species that build weapons of mass destruction. While wars may be caused for the same reasons that they are started throughout the animal kingdom we are the only one's on this planet that have the power to wipe out an entire country. As you explained in your poem, war makes human life expendable, people are killed with out thought and in large numbers.
You have asked a hard question, "why is there war?" great poem.
