There they stood,
Side by side,
The daughter smiled,
The mother cried.
Mom thought back to yesterday,
And all that they'd been through,
She was lost in precious memories,
Of the little girl she knew.
The days went by too quickly,
Time just seemed to fly,
She wanted to keep her little,
As in the days gone by.
If only she could stop the clock,
Turn back the hands of time,
Just so she could tuck her in,
Or read her a nursery rhyme.
Peek at her out the window,
While she was hard at play,
Or rock her in her arms again,
At the end of a busy day.
But the clock just kept on ticking,
There was no way to slow it down,
Now that girl was standing,
All dressed in her cap and gown.
And seeing her daughter all grown up,
Mom came back to the here and now,
She knew she had to let her go,
But she didn't quite know how.
So Mom just gently hugged her,
Looking into her eyes so blue,
Told her how much she loved her,
As her pride was shining through.
And there they stood,
Still side by side,
The Mother smiled,
The daughter cried.

This is very touching, Bonnie! Lots of smiles and tears on both sides, I'm sure! Congratulations to both of you! Time sure does fly, doesn't it? I've often wanted to turn that clock back a bit. Very well done, Bonnie!

Bonnie, I think it's wonderful.  I wish I had written it. I loved the way you combined everything and brought it all together from beginning to end. I really liked the way it "flows"...but then I'm partial to that way or writing.

I hope they put it in the her yearbook.

Bonnie:

This was beautiful and full of such intense emotional feeling. I am graduating from college this year...and it's very hard for me to believe as you said...how time flies on by. where do all the years go? i am sure many tears will fall at my graduation as well. this was simply lovely!

take care,
amy
