is our love a stolen season?
an Indian Summer of passion and fire
is it just a brief respite from winter's icy chill?
will the blossoms and fruit of our desire
that lay so heavy upon the branches of the love we've made
fade in the coming grey, storm-laden days ahead?
will the warm fragrant breezes that caress our senses
will they, will they even now, rip the tender spring growth
between you and I, to tattered shreds
with the raking fingers of it's winter twin?

it aches my heart, to fear that our love
will flicker and die, like the autumn sun
and that the splendor of the sun-filled days
will wither away in my mind
and fall, drifting to the floor of my mind
like some happy illusion
like some forgotten season of years past
a brief stint in the chambers of time
where the clock had stopped
where she could touch us not with her endless count
as we forced back the dawn
and held it captive with tears and protest
unwilling for our stolen season to end
we beseeched the sun to stay her rise
for one more bittersweet hour
while we proclaimed our unending love
bound it firm with passionate kiss
and earnest pledge

my love, if I could, I would forswear the sun
and hold high the moon in her stead
if I could but keep you by my side
for just a moment more

"Our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything."
--William Shakespeare

Oh Heather, how I wish I could rein in the Sun's passage against the empty sky, forstalling its aloofness for just a moment longer, that you and your love could have a bit more time....or to grant the brief second needed for a moment of respite, wherein could be found the strength to move on....but in all things, the choice lies within.

Beautiful, yet bittersweet....with an interesting application and allusions to the seasons...splendid job!

See ya soon, girlie...
