It is said the Holy Spirit endows
A powerful gift I am to house
Upon the chance I will have to witness
But I've no faith in spiritual fitness

I learn by rote but I don't retain
For there seems a fog within my brain
God bestows the chance to share His Word
But to heed my story would be absurd

I hear that Jesus was a bastard son
I might shake my head turn tail and run
How should friends of mine make me nervous
They shake their heads at my lip service

My good friend claims he's intellectual
Most of his jokes although are sexual
How can I not pose the hypocrite
When he and I share the same kind of wit

I have a job that pays low wages
My co-worker his mind often rages
My feeble witnessing he will abide
As long as I've tolerance for his side

I felt that low wages and low rent friends
Were circumstances to meet the ends
How will I reach even just one soul
If I'm looking down upon the whole

For there is no one lesser than me
My first lesson in humility
I am the biggest baseball fan one's seen
So I know the verse John Three Sixteen

My love prays for me to Heaven she sends
The same prayers I offer up for my friends
And in this circle since God forgave
I pray one day we will all be saved

The doctor said, "You're almost dead.
Don't eat green bananas no more."
The sick little monkey groaned and said,
"But that's what I 1-2 the 3-4."

I really appreciated your writing here - brave of you - I was raised in a Christian family too, and I, too, have problems with figuring out when I should be witnessing - I do care deeply about getting people thinking about where they are going when they die, but I too, have a ribald sense of humor, and, yes, how can one witness while having this, without feeling like a hypocrite?

Walt guess what? You were just witnessing! Did ya know that?  When I studied I didn't think I retained a thing, but low and behold, when it was time, it all came flooding back to me.

Each has there own gift Walt. Some have healing, some have prayer. Some have the gift of faith. Trust me, whatever that gift is be sure God is using it to the good! Sometimes you do something and aren't aware that you're sending His message. You never know, your gift could just be a smile at the right person who is depressed and thinking of ending it all, and that smile, sincerely, made them change their mind.  One never knows all the time Walt.

Little things you say and do are witnessing Walt. You have a tender heart and I know you've tried. Though God's timing is always perfect, and if it didn't work, fear not, it just wasn't time.  God bless ya Walt!
