downward spiral

lower and lower I slid
into the bowels of
hatred
until I could feel the tips
of hell's fire
reaching for my soul

upwards
from here
the only reasonable option

drinking the healing words
pouring forth
I found a foothold and
slowly started
the climb

trying to forget that this was not
and would never be
love
and grasping only towards
the promise of friendship
I progressed
upward
but the coldness
impeeds
frostbite numbs
from the inside
out

and today
sadly, yet again
the downward spiral
takes me
I don't know why
I let it
a lifetime of slipping
letting go
too easily

I could say it was the
recoil from the slice
of your
ever sharp tongue
cutting at my fragile hold
but maybe
this time
if I was honest
I would say
I let go
because
I missed the
heat

Corazon,

I really liked this.  I've done the 'downward spiral' myself a few times, until I got tired of the 'heat.

indeed, corazon.  how i have felt these same ways and these equal feelings.  ev'rything seems hopeless sometimes, yet something keeps you always yearning for this thing which can overwhelm us so easily, Love.  Oh how I lothe Love sometimes, but then i remember that i can't, for i have never truly loved or been loved...
true words come from your heart, and treasured they shall be...

Wow! This is excellent writing, Corazon!! I'm sure we've all experienced that spiral a few times. I especially loved the ending, too!

Well, I've set up residence on rock bottom... providing you with a nice soft landing spot. *G* So if you'd be so obliging, please land gently. LOL

Great poem, sad lady!

Very nice work, Corazon! Right now I'm in about the same position on the spiral as you are...it's no fun, is it? But, you have to say...this, too, shall pass. Hopefully soon!

Corazon, this seemed ever personal, a slide into the abyss, sometimes we go there just to help us escape. loved the read.
