Bleeding Books

open wounds spilling
letters to the floor swept
up by eyelashes between blinks
staring in a page turning ritualistic
musty thump on a hard cover novel
stitched and scarred from pink fingernails
painted for the yellowing dog-eared hero
who never shows in the night
weeping black and lonely

Wow, talk about imagery! This poem is incredible. I've not been around long enough to have read any of your other works, but this one peice has made me a fan.

spilling
letters to the floor swept
up by eyelashes between blinks

That's just amazing... The way you've told a story of intense longing, and love, using only a few short lines, some gorgeous words, and the tale of a book. Breathtaking.

Hi Serenity!!! Sorry, but I just purchased a nice plot of land at the North Pole!

I might start investing in bridges though.

As great as ever. Haven't been around much to read your work lately, but it's nice to see you still have that edge to your writing!

This is the first post I've read of yours and I was not disappointed. As a lover of books, I lingered on each line. This poem belongs in one most definitely. Great use of images, and expression, the true love for the word comes through.

Thank you very much ACT, Marge, Tess, Doreen and Irish Rose.

Been a little too down lately to even think of poetry...but a word on TV last night triggered this one.

In my mind a see an imaginative lonely woman reading a romance novel....and the hero never comes.

Perhaps a sad poem....yet I think that this scene may be played out more than I know.

Thank you all.....you inspire me.....to keep writing no matter what my mood or what life throws at me.

"the yellowing dog-eared hero
who never shows in the night"

Robert, you and I must be reading the same book...

Loved this.
