Road Map of Love

She cuddled her infant
with soft warm loving hands
and could not get over
that he was heaven sent

Her husband reached over
to hold their son with pride
Eyes full of his wonder
at this child at his side

The baby soon suckled
next to his mother's breast
and she fed him  sweetly
her eyes softly caressed

It was later that night
She slipped off her covers
and wobbled to the bath
and froze at the bright light

The mirror was set under
the harshly glaring globe
- red stretch marks were showing
scarlet her scarred skin showed

She struggled against tears
with eyes stinging with shame
her husband came to see
why she had called his name

Why was his beautiful
wife looking sad tonight?
She pointed to her scars
her eyes full of disgust

His fingers ran over
each dark crimsomed scar
he then whispered  so sweetly
in her ear,"

"This is the road
map to our love."

Years of their devotion
brought them children - five
one day he looked in the
mirror quite surprised

She held him and traced his
lines with her finger and
whispered softly in his
ear, "This is the road map of
our love."

They clung to  each other
under harsh light above
thinking of each other
and road maps of their
love

I think this is a lovely poem....it really touched me cos I do believe that love goes way beyond appearance and I also found it to be a very sweet poem.

Love and hugs,
Lizzie

OMG, T, This is soooo beautiful. You know I actually told my wife that after she had our first child. Yes , seriously I did.

All my love,

Your title caught my eye and I was half hoping for some advice or the rules for love.  What I found was something totally different... a beautiful poem and a new way of looking at my own stretch marks.  Thanks.

All I have to say, is that this made me cry.  And that has not happened in a very long time.  What a touching poem, beautiful.

T,
Excellent writing, my friend!!!  So warm and touching.  Hope I find a love like that one day.
