A lonely beach I walked alone
Silence in the misty dawn
I spied a favorite rock and shell
With me here in private hell.
I've walked this beach since time began
Dreaming of a begging hand
To take my own as I walk along
So I could feel that I belong.
The sand itself does not greet me
The oceans waves do not meet me
I feel so utterly alone
A cold wind chilling to the bone.
And then I spy another set
Of footprints where my own are met
Could it be she's finally here
To wash away my pain and fear?
Faster now, through surf and sand
Quickly now, she's close at hand
Closer together our footprints have fallen
I search the fog and now I'm callin
And then I stop near the rock so still
And my passion and heat mix in a swill
The footprints I've chased now i study at last
And had I not hoped so hard would have passed
For the footprints I've chased now all this time
Those footprints it seems were actually mine.
So alone I walk again through the sand
Eternity now closer at hand.

Knowlege tempered by wisdom...Wisdom tamed by youth.

RSEvans  this is great ------sad,
but great -----I am sure that those
footprints will meet --with another
one who is waiting for yours.

this is SO well written,
your imagery of emotion and expression of it--
is of perfection.
deep, dark and beautiful in its sadness,
excellent writing poet sir !!

--------------
I know it's been a long road
To get these towns behind me and I
Will gladly reap what we may sow--
I am there for you ...
and you're there for me ...
Are you waiting for
Heart in hand
Woman and man
See me where I stand I am
Heart
Heart in hand
~vertical horizon~

Hi RSEvans,

This is just lovely, and I hope that you will find foot prints some day that will lead you to your hearts desire.

Here I thought those footprints would be her. But...it turned out sad for now

Someday the sun will shine
And all things will turn out fine.
Her prints next to yours
Along the blue ocean shores.
This sadness will then decline.

Denise -- sometimes more than others...thanks.

ACT -- Glad you liked it.

Wht Dove -- Not all stories have a happy ending...this one actually does...but emotion changes so often it becomes more of a moment than a story...

RSEvans,

This would be a great poem to give to someone who hasn't learned yet that you need to love yourself and be comfortable with yourself before you can walk beside someone else.  Thanks for the reminder!

Beautiful poem...you took from sadness, to anticipation, to sadness again, all with your words. A job well done.

RSEvans, this was a sad lovely poem. Reminds me of my own time following those footsteps. I believe that there is a positive note here though....... and that is...

Its a good thing you weren't rabbit hunting when you caught up with yourselt, because if you weren't wearing your bright orange hunting jacket, You might have mistook yourself for the little critter, and it would have been messy.. so you can atleast take comfort in that...... Ok, RS put down the gun.... we can talk about this.... outta here.

Robert, this was really something...there for a minute, I thought you had found "her"....my heart sank for you when you said they were your own...I'm not sure I liked the ending, but it was beautifully heartwrenching.  I agree with what Michael said up there, he made a good point.  *sigh*  Glad I found this before it slipped away.  Back for another go round brother Rob!  Miss you guys!

You know, I read this again, and I'm overwhelmed with sadness.  I too, have walked alone in the sand...there's something about it.  The vast ocean out there - dark and close, yet as you said, it still doesn't quite meet you.  Walking along the beach is good "pondering" time though.  Beautifully sad.
