I am lost and foundering without my rhyme.
I wonder how you write free verse.
I hear iambics in my mind.
I see rhyming, miming, words in timing. (oops!)
I want to structure each of them
I am lost and foundering without my rhyme.

I pretend to let words freely flow
I feel the need to write a sonnet.
I touch more hearts with my pantoums.
I worry not when penning villanelles
I cry no tears when quilling paradelles (oops!)
I am lost and foundering without my rhyme.

I understand we each have styles to write.
I say that this should surely be all right (oops!)
I dream pentameter at night (darn!)
I try to write in free verse, but I can't.
I hope to meter my next quatrain
I am lost and foundering without my rhyme.

Nan -  I guess that I would be like you, for writing in rhyme is all I do...This one certainly is first rate, but all the poems you've written are great!!!   Bonnie

I really related with this one...

"I hear iambics in my mind.
I see rhyming, miming, words in timing."
Wonderful! *loved the "oops" too*

(There are moments, though, where thinking thoughts in rhyme feels to me more like a curse *whew*)

Thanx for the smile

OMG it's spreading! You get off the puter and everything you think is in rhyme too? Just try and lay down at night and say your prayers without rhyming them! LOL  good one Nan!

Nan, I just can't understand each time that you take pen in hand why it needs to come out rhyme. I mean, it really is a crime to disregard or, even worse, ignore completely good free verse.Come on, girl, don't be so afraid to join in our free verse parade and you will find in little time that you will never think in rhyme. Your verse will pour out loud and free and then you'll be just like, er, me!
