Wake Me Before I Fall

Soundly sleeping
I listened with my heart
at first light
the resonance was soft
a muted call of desire
trill it did
into the silence of sleep
a lover’s insistent sigh

far and away it ebbed
then closer ‘til
my breast warmed
hearken not to this embrace
my fear proclaimed me
lost down travesty you’ll slide
and any turn might wrench
the safety of this warm place
where dwelling is forever

my ancient tear was new again
and patterned by a great regret
that trod in memories darkest den
and pulled forth light
that wishes made

Oh sleep me quiet still
I say across the chasm
heaving still with bliss abandon
let me stay your breath for wisdom
let me drown in profound bliss
so wept by tears

I am too open for this call
to break and blunder drawn
a poison like the honeyed vision
of you lit and longing for me
stakes my heart into this pillow

Wake me love for I am lost
and dreams are daring me
fast hold my wealth
inside your heart light
kiss me open onto your dear
and gentle listen
dispel that lover’s insistent sigh

Wake me before I fall

Martie,
This one is new to me. I don't remember your posting it. You must have experience in the "longing department", because that is something you wrote so well about.
"the honeyed vision
of you lit and longing for me
stakes my heart into this pillow"
This is classic Martie!.  I love it!

No, I don't think you posted this before, I don't remember it either. Wonderful poem, Martie. The pain and longing are well expressed.

Whenever I read one of your poems, I then take the title and try to recreate it without peeking and I never can even come close to equalling your work. This is no exception.........

Such beauty Martie, I can't even begin to describe it.  You have a wonderful talent to put words in such unique combos and come up with a masterpiece of emotion.  Stunning, as always.

Martie,

this is a bit of a departure from other posts of yours I've read lately.  And if possible, it's even better.  Why?  Because your deeper emotions are here for us to see.

Thank you for sharing them with us.

Corinne

You know, I was going to disconnect and get some work done over an hour ago. I am glad that I was delayed and that I peeked in here. Your talent speaks in this piece. It was very well written and very mornful. Superb my friend.

How is it that your words tonight can bring me to my knees?!  "my ancient tear was new again", and "Wake me love for I am lost and dreams are daring me" - oh, Martie, you should get a book of poems published.

This is breathtaking, Martie!  I was on my way to bed when I saw this incredible poem, and the title nabbed me.  What a lovely piece to carry with me, as I drift off to sleep!  Thank you so much for sharing your abundant talent with us, here!
