A Thousand Lifetimes

I have sailed a thousand journeys
I have lived a thousand dreams
I have held a thousand wishes
Planed a thousand foolish schemes

I have lost tenfold and more times
I have wandered paths alone
I have fought enormous battles
Slaying dragons on my own

I have spanned the highest reaches
I have gazed at far most stars
But in all my expectations
Never realized love like ours

I have knelt to God in reverence
I have humbled many men
Spent a lifetime simply searching
Traveling far and back again

I have borne the grief of many
I have lived the life of few
But I’ve never loved another
Quite the way that I love you

I have pondered all life’s mysteries
I have written words in rhyme
I have cursed the saints in heaven
Held the hand of love in mine

I have dug a thousand trenches
Buried pasts and let them lay
I’ve revealed a thousand secrets
In the words I’ve had to say

And if now my journeys ended
If I’ve lived all I can be
Let me sleep the sleep of ages
Content in knowing you loved me

WOWWWWWW!!!!
Ruthie,
This is absolutely beautiful. You have written your heart very well. Rest asured "we" all love you here at passions.
You brighten my day just to see your name even before I read your works.

Lovely thoughts Ruth...I have wondered if anyone will miss me when I pass away....I hope and pray that while some are mourning some will be smiling in their heart when they remember how I loved them and how they loved me.    James

Ruth, I don't believe they have ever established a rating system for beauty, like they have for hotels.  But, if they had, I am sure it would be based on your poetry.  So, let me be the first to coin this phrase: "This is a five-hoot poem!"

Ruth,
Absolutely Incredible!  My friend TerryW told me when I got to Passions that there were some special poets that I had to look up.  I can see that he was right when he told me that I had to find your work.  I can feel the power in your work.  Truly lovely!

Very powerfully written, and the ending, though heart-tugging, is so honest and true, it cannot help but touch the deepest parts of a person.  Excellent.

Hoot~
So lovely are your thoughts.
Some would hope to share just
one of these lifetimes.
Beautifully rendered, poetess.
