My uncle served in WWII from start to finish
he sent this poem home in a letter ( untitled )
I gave it one ( hope I do it Honour )
We dont know who wrote it ...

Rose of Heaven
~~~
I've  seen  some  beautiful  flowers  grow
in  lifes  garden  fair
I've  spent  some  wonderful  hours
lost  in  their  fragrance  rare
But  I've  found  another  flower
wonderous  beyond  compare
~
There's  a  rose  that  grows
in  "no  man's  land"
and  it's  wonderful  to  see
Although  it's  sprayed  with  tears
it  will  live  with  me  for  years
in  my  garden  of  memories
~
It's  the  one  red  rose
that  the  soldier  knows
it's  the  work  of  a  master's  hand
Midst  the  war's  great  curse
stands  the  red  cross  nurse
she's  the  Rose  of  "no  man's  land"
~
Down  from  heavenly  splendor
to  the  dismal  trail  of  woe
God  in  his  mercy  sent  her
Cheering  the  world  below
we  call  her  "Rose  of  Heaven"
and  we've  learned  to  love  her  so
~~~

This is marvelous and very moving.  My father was in World War II as well, and I really appreciate your sharing this poem.

"God in his mercy sent her".  I can understand how the soldiers must have loved those blessings from heaven.   James

Rex~
Thank you.
This means more to me than you will ever know.
My grandmother served in the Red Cross on the battlefields front.
How she would have loved your grandfather's poem.  She told me so many stories of the men within her care.
She was indeed .. A Rose of Heaven.
Gosh ... I could just hug your neck for this !

 Is it too much to find an answer,
Is it too much to hold you close.
Is it too much to find a reason,
Is it too much to free my soul --
From self control ...
And I know you're always waiting for me ...
You take me far away,
And I know you're holding me ...
And it's better now ...

Excellent, Rex. There are so many other players in the tragedy of war....the nurses and doctors, the uso workers, the volunteers and the list goes on....each one extremely important to the complete picture.
