Writers Block

Why do they call it “writer’s block”
Why can’t they call it “writer’s pause”
An interlude can be unlocked
Sometimes we tarry just because

At times the mind must hesitate
To stop a while and catch its breath
A little time to sit and wait
Should never be construed as death

A block sounds like a mass of brick
A granite slab inside your brain
A barrier of boulder thick
A “writers interim” sounds more sane

Why not call it “writers shroud”
A see-through veil through which we breath
And walk with head held tall and proud
Though in our silence we bereave

I tell them it’s a routine daze
For mind to achieve the things it ought
A poet’s resting, idling phase
Of observation, sense and thought

So call it anything you want
“Poet's pause”, or “mimic’s mock”
But let me stop and catch my breath
And please don’t call it “writers block”

The mind’s observing while it floats
And I am simply taking notes

I've always thought that writer's block
Was really just a bunch of crock.
The phrase denotes a thought foreboding
Let's just call it "writer's reloading"!

Something you'll never have to worry about, by the way. I love it all.....

I prefer to think of it as my muse musing.

Great little poem, Liz!

You set the block with seed to flower
And it will explode again with power.
Excellent poem.

I love this, as always Liz great work.
I know I've had writers something
seems I've missed a whole room since
I've been back.
I call my delay of writing.
and gets no sleep
and has no time.
great to see so many have come aboard.

Liz, this is a great poem. I don't feel so bad about having "writer's pause" now!

My friend TerryW told me that you were an incredible poet, and I believe every word he said.  This was incredible.  And a true depiction of "Writer's Block".  Anyone who can weave such beautiful words is truly gifted.   Thank You!

Perhaps I should call mine "writer's reverie..." but certainly, you are not affected by any of the above, Elizabeth!
