Paris, center of the universe, just before the Revolution
A rough and painful time in the history of man's evolution
In the middle of this chaos breathed a poet's soul
A poet who knew the heart of a woman brave and bold
Daughter of a land owner, child born of wealth
They saw each other as they could, with a great deal of stealth

A daughter of the bourgeoisie loved by a poet of the people
Nightly they would meet in the center of town, near the church with twin steeples
There, they would speak of love and make plans for their life
One day soon together they would become husband and wife
But unless he could pay her father her large dowery
Their dream of being together simply could not come to be

So, the poet found inspiration in the arms of her, the woman he loved
In his words and his poems he made her equal to the angels above
The poet's words became well known thoughout all of France
These words would gain him wealth and give him his chance
But the country was crumbling under the weight of the masses
The rumblings were beginning to be heard from the lower classes

On his way to the home of his love to ask for her hand
He was set upon by thieves, a nameless, faceless band
Becuase of the money from his words which he held in a sack
They thought he was a member of the bourgeoisie and planned an attack
He was beaten senseless and left for dead
Later, she found him and fell to her knees, cradling his head

His last words began, "Love of my life, weep not for me
Weep for yourself and all of the bourgeoisie. . . "
His words trailed off as there he breathed his last breath
She knew that he did not want her to join him in death
So with a final kiss she left his body on the road
But in her heart, she carried his soul. . .

A tale so tragic and beautifully told, Sven...

Your tale has brought many feelings in the telling.  I like it Sven.  tragic and beautiful.....

A man does not love a woman because she is beautiful...But she is beautiful because he loves her.

Oh, what knowledge I might have retained if all history were so wonderfully written. *smile*

Love is tragedy, and you always express that so well Sven. Excellence again.

Such love, such tragedy, such a waste, but lessons were learned!!  Wonderful work Sven of epic proportions

A heart and soul are not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others...
