   Earthen Jug

Molded on a potter's wheel,
For rum runners out of Nassau,
Long thumbs lifted you tall,
Smoothed your lip
To round the mouth
Of a pirate
To gird a belly full of fear.

I found you
Sand held in time,
Pitted and pocked,
Sea laced.

My thumbs retrace
Your lines spun out
In clay.
I remember my genesis.

Franni

Isn't it interesting, thinking about beginnings of things, including one's self.

You've written these lovely lines beautifully, and I thank you for sharing them here.

netswan, thank you for your comments.  I appreciate it.

Martie, your poem on the bottle inspired me to post this.  Thank you.

Troy, I am happy you read my poem and many thanks for the welcome. Although I have posted a few times before it hasn't been enough to get to know some of the poets.

Claire,  Thank you for taking time to read my poem and posting an inspiring comment.

Franni~
The title is lovely ...
the contents of the 'jug'
full of wisdom pouring forth
from our beginnings.

Earthen ... isn't it just the
prettiest word?

You are a very talented poet, dear
I am somewhat of an antique enthusiast and see and feel and wonder about the hands that have touched the objects in my possession. Just like Marties poem about the warped paper, there's a certain intrigue about the person who crafted the object or wrote the letter
Wonderful
