~ The Legend:  Ghost of the Tranquil Seas ~

The Story Goes...

~~~~~~~
Once a lonely maiden fair
believed that she could fly -
Stepped off the cliff, fell to the sea,
now hear her ghostly cry...
She walked the ledge for many years
her cries upon the breeze -
Some have claimed they've seen her ghost
drifting 'cross the Seas...
Legend tells, there was a man
somewhere who held the key -
Who, if he fell in love,
would release her from the sea.
His love would give her life again
no more there, would she roam -
Where upon the cliffs of hell
in death, became her home...
So every night she waited,
listening for a horse's breath -
For hooves which carried such a man
whose love would mend her death.
And every man who passed, she
approached him oh so fair -
With ghostly eyes so lovingly
spoke, "Love me if you dare..."
The men would ride off terrified
into the dark of night -
and leave her kneeling there in tears,
trembling in moonlight...
One night though - a different sound
fell clearly on her ear -
The sound of hoofbeat strong & sure
approached her, ever near...
Her many tears had made her blind
his face, she could not see -
She simply stood there reaching out,
- so angelically...
Her gown & hair blew round her
in a wisp of ghostly white -
His gentle voice said, "Look at me..."
unaware, she'd lost her sight.
She turned her eyes toward him,
and he looked within them deep -
He saw her soul, transparently
and there began to weep...
He'd traveled many years
searching for her spirit lost -
Determined he would find her,
no matter what the cost.
She was his maiden fair
a pure reflection of his soul -
Her eyes a mirror to his own,
her essence made him whole.
He helped her step down from the ledge
and stood in breathless awe -
He brushed her hair back from her face,
amazed by what he saw...
Her ghostly features now had life
her empty eyes found sight -
A starlit smile graced her lips,
he fell in love that night...
The story goes, they never parted -
you no longer hear her cries...
Instead there on the Sea's below,
you hear angelic sighs...
Sighs of sweet contentment
laced with sighs of ecstasy -
Two lovers swimming in their Sea
of pure tranquility...
Gen,
If you keep writing this well someone is going to steal your talent away from us and put it into print.
This is simply awe inspiring.
All my love,
Jeffrey
Thank you dear Jeffrey for taking the time to read it - I know it's awfully long, but there was just no way to condense it!     I'm hoping folks don't get discouraged, and quit reading before reaching the end!  LOL  Your comments always mean the world...thank you for such support!
There is an old saying that ghosts are the regrets of living men...perhaps that holds true in that ghosts follow us throughout our lives.  I too have regrets of things I did or did not do, but without them I wouldn't be here, now would I?  Sorry if this rambles but I just got to work and I'm still asleep...   Beautiful poem, sis.
 Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.
Tracie66 - - Very honored to be your last read of the night...May all your dreams come true if you're heading off to bed!
A Romantic Heart - - *curtsies* to the nice romantic lady herself!  hehe  Thank you for reading and enjoying!
Lost Dreamer - - I too found peace in it....Thank you my dear.
Robert - - Glad you enjoyed it bro!  How was your weekend with the folks, BTW?  hehe  I'll bet.....
Butterflies_don't_cry - - I've taken a very different turn of late with my poetry.  Indeed, I have been attempting to "weave" a tale into them.  I think I like my writing better that way.  Thank you for noticing the changes!     I feel I am finally challenging myself more, and am producing far better quality this way.
Janet - - Glad you liked!  You don't think it's too long?  It's probably the longest I've written yet, short of a funny I did in Adult a long time ago.     I'll miss you while I'm away!  Take care of you, ok?
The BlindMan - - I'm so glad you journeyed with me into this one.  I'm hoping many more do too.  'Twas a happy journey, I hope?  Thank you sir.
Man, to only have a story teller as good as you as a child... how do you do that?  I wish I had your imagination and creativity. =)
This was beautiful.  When you described her kneeling and tremibling in tears it all became clear as day... wow.
Yes, 'tis an honor to know such a great story teller.  Even if only through a message board.
TOO LONG!?  Not this one... hell.. I'm not sure how you could have made it any better, but I'm hungry for more.  It's not long enough! =)
Guess I should get back to work huh?  [sigh]  I'm coming down with a cold or something too...   blah.  Talk to ya later.
My goodness Gen. I am taken in by every piece you have written. I know you haven't heard me reply lately. But I have read and reread and reread all of you poems from the last month or two. You have such a gift. You steel my imagination. Then inspiration fills my being. I can only hope to write as well as you. I love all your work. But with this one you have taken it to the next level. Your imagery. WOW !!!
WhiteNite - - You're so funny!  I like how you just "ramble" in your comments...I can just see your little wheels turning!  LOL   Pssst, I've thought about doing some Part 2's to some of my most fav's....BTW, you take care of that cold, ok?
galaxy84 - - Thank you & welcome to our forums!  I've not seen you around before, but hope to see more of you soon!  Enjoy your stay here!
Brent - - You don't comment much, but I am always thrilled when you do.  I had no idea you were "rereading" my works...(blushing)  My imagination is your imagination, remember?    I didn't steal it from you....promise.
David2 - - Aaahh...you saw it as I wanted it to be...a haunting love story.  Thank you so much!
James - - Thank you sir...glad it was smooth!  Something of this length is hard to keep that way, you know!  LOL
Sven - - I am going to keep this up!     And about my muse?  He does have a good hold on me, doesn't he?  I hadn't realized that until you mentioned it....   I will hold on till my hands bleed, how's that?  LOL  Thank you sir.
**I am graced by so many lovely comments on this piece...and I just can't say enough to let you all know how much your words of encouragement mean.  I have changed my style, and I wasn't sure if it would go over.  Seems the storytelling is okay with you then, 'eh?     Love you all so much!
