(revised 4/25)

Pacific Beach

Evening walk along the silver strand,
as sandpipers chase retreating waves,
only to be chased in return.

A Hawaiian storm carries swells
surfers and onlookers love,
sailors stay home tonight.

The sun has set into the line
where sky ends and sea begins,
or so I believed as a child,
squinting, hoping to witness
the illusive “green flash.”

On Crystal Pier, we watch dolphins
swim toward warmer waters of Mexico.
It’s the only pier I’ve seen with a motel.
Someday let’s stay in unit number one,
we’ll capture the coast as ours,
let the cottage rock us to sleep.

I feel at home here,
my beach is still the same,
the ocean’s call unchanged,
only the artificial grows
like a cancer.

This moment is perfect,
the wind picking up,
you by my side,
phosphorescence
of white water
catching light just so
in your green eyes.

this is excellent Corinne...
the imagery was perfect as were the emotions and yes that ending line.
a very calming and serene read.
very nice indeed,
jm

Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.

Cause you have painted a very vivid picture here.

Denise, thank you!

Janet, the place has that effect on me.  You know when you're under a lot of stress and images come to you to relax you?  This is where I go.

Parker, another mystery for your research files! I think you should be able to find documentation of the "green flash" somewhere!

Jeffrey, thank you for the lovely words.
All my love back at ya.

Ok Red, so you wanna make me work. So I guess I have to search on the Green Flash, and you sure I'm not going to get a ton of comic book sites.... I'll be back to report on this, mystery.... stay tuned...
What is this green flash?.....
Does it even exist?......
Has another poet lost her lovely marbles in
passions?....
Or is it possible a creptic message, referring to a druid cult worship sec....
stay tuned.......

Well here it is.......

Explanation: Many think it is just a myth. Others think it is true but its cause isn't known. Adventurers pride themselves on having seen it. It's a green flash from the Sun. The truth is the green flash does exist and its cause is well understood. Just as the setting Sun disappears completely from view, a last glimmer appears startlingly green. The effect is typically visible only from locations with a low, distant horizon, and lasts just a few seconds. A green flash is also visible for a rising Sun, but takes better timing to spot. A slight variant of this was caught in the above photograph, where much of the Sun was still visible, but the very top appeared momentarily green. The Sun itself does not turn partly green, the effect is caused by layers of the Earth's atmosphere acting like a prism.

Yes folks is true..... but do you have to be a druid Irish princess to experience this Green Flash?
Stay tuned for other mysteries under the rainbow.

Parker reserch services.

Good detective work, Park!  Am I to be charged for these services now?  LOL

"...midst the eternal cliffs, whose strength defied
The crested Roman in his hour of pride;
And where the Druid's ancient cromlech frowned,
And the oaks breathed mysterious murmurs round,
There thronged the inspired of yore! on plain or height,

In the sun's face, beneath the eye of light,
And baring unto heaven each noble head,
Stood in the circle, where none else might tread."

Among Mrs. Hemans' poems. written for an Eisteddfod, or meeting of Welsh Bards, held in London, May 22, 1822.

Corinne,

What can I say?  This is a beautiful revision to a lovely poem, with great points of craft, too (pun intended).  Let's move to unit one to capture the coast.  And, speaking of capture, the illusive green flash captured in the last stanza.     Perfect!  Tis an honor and a privilege to read you, sweet poet.
