My grandson is my true delight.
We get together every night
To play some games, just him and me...
An old man and a child of three.

Well, ROAD MAP is his favorite game
And, every night, it is the same.
I listen to his anxious pleas...
"Road map, gwampa! Road map, pweeze!"

I place the Road Map in his hands.
He smiles as his small finger lands
On one small line and off he speeds
To who knows where his young mind leads.

I watch as his small finger flies
Down roads 'neath cotton candy skies,
Through magic kingdoms filled with fun
Into the land of Pokemon.

With pure delight his trail goes
Through towns no adult ever knows.
Fire-breathing dragons cringe in fear
To sense his finger coming near.

Then finally the night is done.
I smile down at my small grandson
And gently take the map away
To bring it out another day...

When, once again, I'll watch with joy
As his small fingers trace
The roads which are the wrinkles
On the Road Map of my face.

Balladeer, I've missed you and your rhymes.  This one is very heart touching...I love it.

And I firmly believe that there is no map, like the one drawn upon our faces by traveling through life.

At my last birthday, I commented on "getting old" and my granddaughter [bless her heart] said "you're not getting old, you're just right..."

Grandkids - ya gotta love 'em!

Thanks, 'Deer, for bringing back that little memory...

What a stirring and eloquent poem, Balladeer!  I don't have any grandkids yet, but my 8-month-old daughter is sure a joy ('cept when she needs her nap, LOL!)

Finally!  I've been missing my Balladeer fix!

You always make me smile.  I live my family vicariously through you my friend.  And I love playing these games. =)

Thanks, it was good to hear from you again.  You've been missed!
