        A Friend Like You

I remember the first time I met you.
Everything seemed perfect,
everything seemed to fit just right.

Over time we became good friends,
and my feelings for you grew stronger than ever,
I had never met someone who made me feel the way you do.

I knew I shouldn't let my feelings for you become any stronger,
but I couldn't help it,
you were the only person that filled my thoughts.

Unfortunately, you never knew how I felt,
and you went off with someone else.
I knew that I should've told you how I felt,
because if I would've,
I wouldn't be sitting here right now,
regretting the fact that I didn't.

Maybe we weren't meant to be together,
but then again, maybe we were.
But now we'll never know,
Because your with someone else now.

Maybe someday I'll get my chance,
but for now this will have to do,
because even though we can't be together,
it makes me feel great to know that I've got a friend like you.

Carly....
This is an emotion that is hard to deal with.
Crossing the fine line of friendship.
I know how you feel, I have been there too.
To cross that line is a touchy thing.
Great job and welcome to passions!

Welcome to Passions, Carly --
This is a fine addition to the
poetry at the forum here.
I can feel your pain - and your
realizing -- that friendship is
a wonderful thing, too.

I liked reading this...aha..you can still tell him how you feel because you never know...he may be thinking why did I settle for second best...also than he won't be able to say...why didn't you ever tell me the way you feel.   James

"and you went off with someone else."  Carly, Sometimes it takes someone else to make us realize our feelings about things, people, etc.  I feel if you keep your friendship with this guy, you will find out whether it was meant to be or not to be.  You'll see.

First welcome to Passions!! Hope you like it here, I'm sure you will. Secondly this was excellent...you have managed to capture my feelings at this exact moment. seeing as how i am in a similar boat as you right now my friend...i dont have any wise words of wisdom. all i know is if something is meant to be, it will. keep your chin up and think positive. take care.

Wow,as I read this one it borught back memories of a poem of my own almost word for word.... except the ending.  That REALLY made it for me.  I wish I were still such good friends with the subject of my poem.

If you want to read it it's on my  home page. (The little picture of a house at the tope of this post) It's called "Taking Chances".  It's not half the poetic pleasure that yours is, but maybe it will give you a sense that you're not alone.

Thanks for the memories, and I hope they realize what a good friend they have in you.

Almost forgot, welcome to passions!  Can't wait to read mroe of your poetry.

this really got to me. I have a friend, a good friend, a married man
once he said "would you have let me kiss you if I tried?"
I said "did you want to?"
he said "no, because it would have destroyed the friendship"
he's just a keeper you know, and that means something...it really does.
I sure hope he isn't reading this!!!
