Do we as humans not realize ...
or is it we just don't care?
In these days of wanton waste,
the rule is now buyer beware.

Creature comfort and wall street profit --
now come with a hefty price.
Mankind has lost is conscience ...
Natures glory the sacrifice.

Our recklessness is immense,
Our worlds are nearing collide.
We've burned a hole in our atmosphere
the effects of this action ...
the geniuses still try to decide.

Tempetures are in the rise,
melting glorious oceans of ice.
Far away, drought scorches the land ...
where once was found perfect paradise.

Entire regions are raped,
all in the name of greed.
Someone better sound the warning,
we all better take heed.

Rain now falls thru tainted clouds,
burning the fields it should baptize.
When we cant feed our own children,
maybe then we will open our eyes.

Ancient trees fall in stripped forests,
Still no one hears...
They are taking away your right to breathe,
we are our children's nightmares ... we are their future fears.

Perhaps when there is nothing left,
then we will understand.
What will we spend our profit on ...
when all that's left is barren land.

A wise poet once wrote ...
Natures First Green Is Gold.
If we don't fight to keep her this way ...
our own extinction we will soon behold.

Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.

Wow.....very powerful message here....I loved the line: "We are our children's nightmares....we are their future fears."   Kinda hits you 'right there'.......!!      Excellent work; I think everyone needs to see this one!

JM
This is absolutely eye opening...The way you express the fears of a future that is so inevitible really stands out here. I can tell that you are very passionate about this subject. We should all be as passionate as you.

This is a wonderful poem, and oh so true.
Thanks for sharing. I don't know what
the challenge was, but it certainly was
worth reading.

Extremely powerful and eye opening, JM.  It is a horrible thing what we do to the very land that has given us most everything that we have.  Hopefully, if enough people start recognizing this, things will change.

Janet, this was absolutly to the point. A beautifully powerful response to the challenge. I think we should make sure they all come back up on earth day. Hopefully a lot of our great poets pick up the challenge.
Bravo.
