I had a very difficult time coming up with anything for this challenge.  Not because it is unimportant, but because there was so much I wanted to say.  Not unfortunitaly my best but....

2167

The year is 2167
A grandma is trying to explain
Not all animals now roam free
Her grandchildren listen, never to complain

“ But why”? They ask
The grandmother can only sigh
“Ask the government “ she wants to say
For it was they, who told the lie

Where ample forests once stood
Is now a shopping mall
She remembers the trees
That once were so proud and tall

Beaver, wolves and white-tailed deer
Now only seen in zoos
Construction of new highways and houses
Drove them out two by two

She tells of hand feeding squirrels
The children giggle with delight
They would like to see one, one day
Never had the pleasure of such a sight

We take for granted the paths that we walk
But one day, you never know
All our forests may disappear
As human beings…how could we have sunk so low?

Very nice response to the challenge.

I disagree Marina-girl.. this is perfect,
its very creative writing from the futuristic point of view.
powerful words, and images, and the last line says it all
great poem for all the RIGHT reasons,
how did you and parker get to be so wise(smile)
take care jm

Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.

This is great Marina - softly put into
a story that ---touches the heart -
and makes a strong point for the cause.

Challenge well met!
Thanks

Wow... most awesome... I can just see that old lady telling those stories too...

Very well written.

"The storm rises up when the shadows descend
every beat of my heart every day without end
I will stand like a rock I will bend till I break
till theres no more to give if thats what it takes
I will risk everything I will fight I will bleed
I will lay down my life if thats what you need
every second I live thats the promise I make"

I have no idea who wrote this... tell me if you know. =)
