Reminds me of San Pablo CA. We left there dodging bullets in '93. It's sad that life has changed so much from the good old days when cities were a bit calmer and people a bit warmer and doors didn't need locks to feel safe "at home".

This gets closer and closer to home, for me.  Horrifying.  It's good for you to point it out.

Absolutely superb. Your use of beautiful language and elemental references brings about the stark sting of irony so well in this piece...a very well crafted bit of writing. Thank you...

WildChild, Reminds me of San Pablo CA. We left there dodging bullets in '93. It's sad that life has changed so much from the good old days when cities were a bit calmer and people a bit warmer and doors didn't need locks to feel safe "at home". Well Shawna, I just listened to one of Paul Simon's oldies (60's) and he's singing about New York and how he just got out in a nick of time. Gald you got out though.

kaleidoscope, Glad you liked.

Claire, nice to see you in my little corner, and I'm honored for such compliments. I do hope your musings are in the meadows.

This piece of work came about while I was reading some of (Henry Thoreau) who wrote...

"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, to front out the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not a life; living is so dear."

But I was taken so aback by the way life is today that I had to write of it.
