Why must I write at this hour?
While other mortals sleep?
When all is quiet I will arise
and to my computer will creep.

So full is my soul of words unspoken
of feelings I must share.
I rise again, in the dead of night
and begin my poet’s prayer.

Deliver me from pedantry,
from silly limerick ways.
Give me depth and heart and love
and sometimes, give me praise.

"been there, done that" It's the only time there is real peace and quiet for me to write, so I do know what you mean. Lovely words here. "So full is my soul of words unspoken"! Magnificent! Thank you, Ellie

This is great, Sharon! I'd love to be up in those wee small hours again, bursting with inspiration. Those were the days! I wasn't even really tired in the morning either though I didn't get much sleep! Well, maybe again, some day!

PdV, I've been there..but have never written anything in homage to the dismal dank time when the world sleep, but the mind runs.  Wonderful job of putting every poet's feeling so succinctly on paper, and the web.

Hi Poet deVine,

This is so lovely and so true, I get these urges to write in the middle of the night, but most of the time I find myself scrambling for a peice of paper hoping I don't for get the little didy that will not let me sleep.

Thank you for sharing this,

Cerenity

Exellent, Ms. deVine!  I am also one of those up in the middle of the night, pouring her soul out into verse..I'm sure many of us can relate.  Wonderful work.

I have a bed and lay upon it
Dreaming of a little sonnet
Or sestina or some ode
To come in my sweet abode.

Pentameter dances in my head
Villanelles invade my bed
I gotta get to sleep sometime
But I am overcome with rhyme.

If I don't write it then and there
It drifts out into space somewhere
Soometimes I feel necessity
To take my keyboard to bed with me
Loved it!
