A Gathering Storm

Whipping, cresting, howling winds
bring my senses high
if not for words to linger in
the night would draw thee nigh

But what of wind and beating rain
and what of currents whirring
and what of eyes and heightened heart
upon impassioned stirring

For sonnets singing serenades
and verses ripe with breathing
Pray guide me with your stroking pen
and bid me share this evening

For whispered verse to poet's ear
'gainst skin of sweetened cream
spills, warming, light to darkened night,
intoxicating dream

Dear LadyClaire

Me likes.  A lot.
You certainly have a way with words Claire,
the last verse is...  let's see a intellectually proper way to phrase this...
OMG!!!   yep... comes close.

Beautiful, with truly lovely imagery, Meadowmuse.

That was a beautiful piece.  Very in depth, and I enjoyed it very much!

Claire,
I do believe that you have been inspired. . .and this is proof of that. . .

I especially love the line,

"For whispered verse to poet's ear
'gainst skin of sweetened cream
spills, warming, light to darkened night,
intoxicating dream"

This was just wonderful. . .

Danny, thank you. The title was the only thing I gave this piece. The rest wrote itself.

Corinne, I'm glad the sensuality came through in this...thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it.

Mike, we need not intellectualize my work, my friend. I just write by "feel"...

Martie, thanks. You always say the kindest things.

Denise, I know of no other place that I would rather share them. Thank you, in earnest, for your gracious response.

Krista, thank you so much...knowing you enjoy my work gives me such a smile.

Dawn Eclipse, thank you for reading this, and for letting me know you enjoyed it.

Sven, I'm awfully glad you liked this...thank you.

Whew ... heart is slowing down now ...

Sweeping and exhilarating, Madame Claire -- you truly have created art with words here!  This had many great moments, but were I to choose my favorite, it would have to be: "...verses ripe with breathing ..."

Truly enjoyable, thank you ...

Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Oh, Claire...as always, you fill me with "poet envy" - but you do it with such beauty, that I really don't mind!  Another masterpiece, my friend!

I feel as if I've been transported to a different place and time! IF that's not what poetry's about, then I don't know what is!
