I Upward Glanced

I heard Him speak as up the hill I plod
And I believed he was the Son of God
For what he preached upon the mount that day
Changed my life and took my pain away

Multitudes had gathered in this place
I upward glanced into the Prophet’s face
He spoke of God’s forgiveness of man’s sin
He looked at me as I looked up at him.

On burro’s back to Jerusalem Jesus came
The people gathered ‘round to praise His name
I upward glanced at Him as he rode by
And He looked down at me with loving eye

I saw Him pace in silence up the street
And fell in reverence at His Holy  feet
The burden of a heavy cross He bore
To save my sinful spirit evermore

My head was bowed so humbly to the ground
But it was not a lowliness I found
For when I upward glanced His face to see
He stood above me smiling down at me

I followed to the hill where He was hung
To witness deeds that could not be undone
Crucified by those who didn’t believe
So sorrowfully I hung my head to grieve

But it was not a sorrow that I felt
Before the cross of Jesus where I knelt
For when I upward glanced into his face
He was looking down in Heavenly Grace

I followed then to see the rocky tomb
Where He was buried in the earth’s cold womb
I hid there near the rock both night and day
And bowed my head in reverence to pray

My tears were flowing from the spirit deep
But it was not unhappiness, this weep
For I was lifted upward by a Light
That fell upon my head and pierced the night

And when I upward gazed into the skies
He was looking down into my eyes
He said, you are forgiven of your sins
As I was humbly glancing up at Him

Now every night I bow my head in prayer
I somehow know that He is always there
For when I upward glance into the night
He pours into my soul His Heavenly Light

Liz, this is so beautiful. It touched me deeply, and reminded me of how much I need Him right now. Thank you for sharing.

Lizzie~
He gave us all the most He had to give.
We kneel in reverent prayer at the blessing.

Lovely.

As I search through the attic shelves and feel and see the things I know today. I thought it would be nice to say... He still hears you today... with such exquisite words I cannot express quite like you, but I know he hears even if the words never find the paper.

Oh, Elizabeth, this is wonderful!  Some pastor should read this in church.  Now I know where the source of your inner beauty comes from, and now I know that we will know each other in person, in Heaven.  What a marvelous friendship that will be!  Thank you for putting this into such reverent and loving words, and sharing it with us.
