A smile, a wink, then a wave goodbye,
Leaving his twinkle deep in my eye,
Not rich just a simple, loving guy,
A memory so rich it makes me cry.

It wasn't what everyone else saw,
Or even his manner or custom call,
It was in his eyes I remember it all
The loving eyes of my Grandpa.

I did no wrong, had no flaws
Did nothing to even give him pause,
He treated me like a king with little cause
Other than he was my loving Grandpa.

I missed him then and miss him still,
When that Autumn day I felt the wind's chill
And He left for the last time against his will
And his eyes closed and he lay still.

I miss you Grandpa, I always will.

Knowlege tempered by wisdom...Wisdom tamed by youth.

Robert, this is a wonderfully warm tribute.  Isn't it something how grandparents always see perfection in their grandkids?  We did no wrong back then - RIGHT!  Their hearts are so big, and their eyes so blind!     Thank you for sharing this...

With Mom gone now, I'm not sure what to feel, you put me at a loss... with my bickering siblings and all. Yet some good longsuffering here on your emotional heart/part. And A good discerning of heart, if I may. Nice heart my friend.
