             As sweet as applejack

Once I had a dog, as sweet as applejack,
Liver ticked and with a saddle on her back.
She always slept besides me here on the floor,
Now the floor is empty she's gone forevermore.

The gentlest of dogs, to me a little more,
Her breath was soft with the slightest bit of snore.
She jerked allot in dream, about her outside day and
I often stroked her head, to sooth the dreams away.

And She would wake up and lick my hand just to say,
I love you too and reassure that she would stray.
Inseparable in everything day or night
We never moved without the other in sight.

She was a love as sweet as applejack,
Liver ticked and with a saddle on her back.
She always slept besides me here on the floor,
Now the floor is empty she's gone forevermore.

I would give anything to see her there once more.
Just lying there besides me, on the kitchen floor.

I've had dogs like that, and continue to get dogs like that, each are special, none more than the other...and they dig such a hole in your heart!

Oh wow Sey, this nearly made me cry!  I've been reading all these tearful poems awhile, and this one just added to it!  Lovely though...makes me want a dog.

Seymour, this is precious. Your sweet applejack must have been a wonderful friend.

Wow, I could see you loved your dog very much, and it was sad to read how much you miss her. Pets are very special, they reach in and grab our hearts and we never are the same after that.

Seymour~
Those little critters can sure
crawl inside our hearts and settle down.
A friend so true ...
Wonderful recalling of your memories.

so sad, our pets bring such rewards.  I know what you mean by that ghostly feeling, you expect to see them there, or running up to greet you when you come home.

Very nicely done.

They really get ahold of our hearts never to be forgotten. This is a sweet tribute, Sy.
