A child’s losses
behind her mother’s ghost
of horrors; she cannot find the causes
of the fears that haunt her most.
~ ~ ~
I hid behind my
father’s furor, a child in the mirror,
beneath the bed of mother’s terror, thinking
my birth perhaps an error.
~ ~ ~
A child’s haunted
when she has no place to hide;
at school she’s taunted, and at home,
she can be no one’s pride.
~ ~ ~
I grew up with a
broken space between my
mind and soul; and only God can fill
the place, and make the fracture whole.

Rosemary, oh so sad,  what heart breaking
poem -- well written  and challenge well
met.

Sigh, it appears that many poets in here,
have many childhood tears.

netswan - I didn't think of this as a response to a challenge.  It started out as purely a story of my mother's severe mental illness, and my father's occasional rage, and the effect on me, but I can see where it led you.  Thank you for your comments.

Honey, I'm sorry that someone would think such a subject a challange. I love you baby not to worry...

If again I may... I'd have to say what a fonderful friend your dad has been, and your mother, my english teacher. Man... What a preacher she is been. But I'd have to tell you through it all I wouldn't change a thing large or small. Can I say... your my love and your my all.

Oh, my sweet friends and dear husband lucky - how I appreciate your responses to a subject I found difficult to write about!
~ ~ ~
Marina - you're quite right - writing here at Passions, and discovering what my fellow-poets think is a most healing thing!
~ ~ ~
netswan, Martie, Septsong - your kindness means more to me than I could ever say.
~ ~ ~
And Dale, (lucky) your love holds me above all the waves of sorrow.  I love you passionately with everything in me, and always will.
