A Child's Loss Of Choice

In his life, some things ... were just a painful given ...
the hurt came when he got lost in the life he was forced into living.
Some wounds scar too deeply and never really heal,
denial helps for a while, blocking the pain that is all too real.

Is it fate or fortune that decides which child will lose its choice ...
sometimes the pain of the past takes away ones soul and ones voice.
When innocence and trust become victims of circumstance-
futures are traded away...and beg for a second chance.

A childhood held hostage by another's tragic mistakes,
the ransom paid with his love-a heart that bleeds, then breaks.
Always knowing he's paid the price ... for someone else's sins,
in this cycle of dreams taken away...only heartache wins.

How does one break the hold of yesterday to move on to tomorrow,
to be no longer haunted by old ghosts dredging up old pain and sorrow.
Its not so hard to understand how he got lost in the shame and fears,
he learned early on, how to numb the pain and keep from drowning in his own tears.

But he was so much stronger than any of them knew,
in time he exchanged denial for the things that helped him get thru...
Faith in true love and God above, the healing wisdom of his poets pen,
no longer allowing the past to own him, a new life he chooses to begin.

Janet Marie  2/24/00

Written for and inspired by someone special in my life AND also by the strength, courage, and honesty, that I have been so touched by here at Passions. I wish to thank all of you who share you pain and lessons of life through your poetry... as it creates understanding and compassion and brings light upon the shadows.
Abuse knows no gender, race, religion, status, or age.
My friends amazing strength and faith taught me lessons of understanding and forgiveness that changed my life and heart forever.
I'll always be grateful to him. I dedicate this to him and anyone who lives with this pain.
I thank you for the inspiration and for allowing me to share this.
take care, with much respect, Janet Marie

...there are places inside all our souls...
that have never been touched...
there are places inside our hearts...
that need to be loved this much...

Your writing never ceases to amaze me Jm! Your friend deserved a better life.  Through these poems I am hoping that even if one more person is made more aware then this is all worth it. Thanks
agian not just for taking the time to post a poem...but for posting two incredible ones!

A difficult topic and one which you dealt with sensitively and with compassion

well done!

Excellent writing JM ~~~~~~
