The Love

Permit me, sir, the pleasure to place myself
tranquilly by your side, my love,
to inhale your quintessence of soul,
and marvel at your spirit,
that which allows me to feel whole.

Idle I’ll not be, but bask in your words,
refraining from speech myself, so
the timbre of your voice will overtake
me, caressing my heart and mind,
as possession of my soul you make.

Naught that I need you, I do abhor
the need of others, but that I desire you,
and I would share you with no other,
as you would not share me;
nay, neither we want to love another.

Take up now to you the twenty years
and face me, seeing through the tears,
the younger woman ‘twas once I,
and will ne’er be again, but through my mind
that vision of womanhood you first did find.

And so, should twenty years more come to pass,
would you know in heart that this lass
is only young then in your view
but know now, and always, in her heart
there will only remain memory of you.
